The 4 Best Local SEO Strategies for Your Northwest Arkansas Business

Let’s get your northwest Arkansas business noticed! SEO can scare business owners away, but it’s one of the best ways to attract new clients. Today, I want to talk about the four best local SEO strategies for your northwest Arkansas business. By the end of this, you’ll have some actionable ways to improve your search rankings so you can get more business!

1. Set up a Google My Business (GMB) account.

This is the most important tip I can give you. You need a free Google My Business account to be successful in your local SEO strategy. You know that little right-hand sidebar that appears when you research a local business? It looks like this:

This is where you can give more details about your business without someone needing to visit your website. You might be thinking, “And why do I want that? I thought this blog was about driving more traffic to my website?”

You would be right. But think of a GMB as a mini preview of your website. You’re giving them the necessary information to call or visit your business right away, which is a win for you. Or they’ll decide you have what they need, so they’ll visit your website and not bounce as quickly (win). You’re also the first business they see in their search results, meaning they’re more likely to check you out first. You get first dibs on this user’s attention. I think those are all legit reasons to have a GMB listing!

In your profile, you can include things like:

  • Website link
  • Google reviews
  • Hours
  • Location
  • Services
  • Images
  • Social profiles
  • Contact information
  • FAQs

A Google My Business listing helps your business appear in local search results when people search for products or services related to your business in your area. This increased visibility can lead to more website visits, phone calls, and visits to your website or physical location.

Your listing provides a snapshot of your business directly in results. It’s eye-catching and does most of the work for the user. If they find what they need from your GMB listing, they’re more likely to visit your website.

I also recommend GMB profiles because they allow customers to leave reviews for your business. Positive reviews can improve your business’s reputation and credibility by showing Google people love you. A business with more reviews will attract more customers and more traffic from Google. It’s one of the best local SEO strategies I can give you.

2. Have a content strategy.

Develop relevant content for the Northwest Arkansas community, such as blog posts, articles, and guides. Be creative in how you create content to target your community AND benefit your business. Don’t get too crazy and create content that has nothing to do with your business. You still want it to be relevant to the products or services you sell.

Here are some ideas you can incorporate into your local SEO content strategy:

  • Highlight local events, news, and attractions your target audience may be interested in.
  • Write a case study of a local business you worked with.
  • Share how you participate in the community.
  • FAQs about your business.
  • Create a local community guide (this one is HUGE for real estate agents)

Don’t forget to incorporate locally relevant keywords naturally into your content (we’ll get to this more in a minute)!

Another reason content is important for local SEO (well, SEO in general) is that Google likes to see businesses consistently providing valuable content. Websites that sit dormant appear out-of-date, and Google doesn’t want to send people to those websites. Consistent content like a blog or podcast proves to Google that you’re worth appearing in search results because you can give users what they’re looking for.

3. Be optimized for mobile.

Ensure that your website is mobile-friendly and loads quickly on mobile devices. This is important for any business, but I want to mention it specifically as a local SEO best practice. Many local searches are conducted on smartphones, and a poor experience will lead right to a page bounce (which you don’t want).

Here are some tips to make sure your site is optimized for mobile:

  • Compress images using a tool like TinyPNG. Huge file sizes slow down your website.
  • Implement a responsive design that automatically adjusts the layout and content based on the screen size and orientation of the device.
  • Make CTAs prominent and easily accessible on mobile screens (AKA, not a tiny little button).
  • Choose legible fonts and font sizes that are easy to read on mobile screens.
  • Place navigation menus, buttons, and other interactive elements within easy reach of users’ thumbs.

Most website hosting platforms will optimize your site for mobile automatically, but if you’re doing a lot of custom design or coding, it might mess up the layout. It’s always worth a second glance to make sure everything looks okay on mobile.

4. Target local keywords.

There’s a reason this blog is titled The Best Local SEO Strategies for Your Northwest Arkansas Business. I could have easily left off the location, but I wanted YOU to find this blog. I’m targeting a specific geographic area.

The point behind targeting local keywords is 1) there’s less competition, and it’s easier to rank in search results, and 2) I want to work with more people in my area. Research and incorporate local keywords related to your business and its location into your website content, meta descriptions, and title tags. I also recommend creating location-specific landing pages if you have multiple on-site locations.

Local SEO strategy applies to physical and online businesses alike. Both can use the tips outlined in this article to boost their search rankings. If SEO is overwhelming to you, contact me!
